5 Reasons to watch Rainless love In a Godless Land

Taiwanese drama, Rainless Love in a Godless Land (無神之地不下雨), tells the story of Xie Tien Di, an ordinary girl who struggles against the fate God (in Amis culture, Kakarayan) bestows upon her. She is suppose to die during the last rainfall on Earth, which also marks the departure of spiritual entities (kawas) from the land (basically Earth is going to be doomed after this). Orad, the kawas commanding rain, is the one that puts Kakarayan’s plans into action, but he seems to have a mysterious relationship with Xie Tien Di. Will Orad stick to Kakarayan’s plan, or will he follow his heart? What happens if they do deviate from Kakarayan’s plan?

Rainless Love in a Godless Land (RLIAGL) was one of the best dramas I watched last year, so I want to share 5 reasons why you should start watching.

1. someday or one day

You might’ve heard of RLIAGL because you’ve watch the popular 2019 drama, Someday or One day. RLIAGL shares the same scriptwriter, Chien Chi Feng (簡奇峯), and production company, 三鳳製作. So, you can expect the same amazing quality.

Besides this, we also have some singers who sang for Someday or One Day‘s original soundtrack contributing to this drama as well. The familiarity will get you immersed into the world of RLIAGL right away.

2. Taiwanese Aboriginal Stories

Incorporating elements from the Amis Tribe, RLIAGL offers a new and refreshing standpoint about the world. This drama will teach you about an unseen culture in Taiwan and how people are spiritually connected to the land and its elements.

The beginning of each episode depicts traditional stories from the Amis tribe with vibrant illustrations, accompanied by narration in the Amis language.

3. Tackles important issue

The story revolves around the last rainfall on Earth, so you can expect environmental issues being a central idea of the drama. Essentially, this drama sets us up to imagine a scenario where humans have exploited natural resources to the limit, we have taken everything for granted, and one day, “God” decides to take these back.

Since the Amis People have an animistic view of the world, the audience can better understand the damage we are doing to Earth.

4. cameos

If you’re a fan of Taiwanese dramas, then be prepared to see some familiar faces. Taiwanese drama viewers will hear themselves saying “Oh, it’s [insert actor’s name]!”. Other than cameos, the special performances by Joseph Cheng and Alice Ko are solid and worth your time.

5. A Spiritual Journey

For me, watching RLIAGL was quite a spiritual journey. I have often asked myself questions like: “Is there really a higher power in the universe?”; “If God was all-loving and all-powerful, why is there still suffering in the world?” I’m glad I watched RLIAGL as it offered interesting responses to these questions. It went even further and made me realize what we as individuals can do for this world and everyone around us. If you have ever pondered on these questions, I’m sure you will find some kind of resolution from this drama.

If I’ve said enough to peak your interest, you can watch RLIAGL on iQiyi’s official website:
